Bus Stop Roofs Jahnplatz
More atmosphere for the new stops at Jahnplatz
The bus stop roofs were developed by Wannenmacher + Möller Architekten as an important part of the redesign of Jahnplatz. The umbrella-like construction forms different groups and varies in size and height. A lively and relaxed appearance was to be generated for the various bus stop areas.
This is where the lighting concept comes in with a series of punchings in the sheet metal of the shades. The different openings are denser at the column of the umbrella and loosen up towards the outside. They are covered with an opal acrylic glass and in the daytime lay a structure of dark dots over the white shell of the shades. In the evening, backlighting activates and loosens up the entire volume of the roof with a soft light gradient. The punchings change into a bright structure. The internal light source of the backlighting is also attached to the column and follows the course of the punchings with the drop in light intensity. Inside the shades, white areas ensure improved back-reflection of the light in order to generate an effective light gradient deep into the construction. The spotlights were positioned in such a way that they are aimed at the ceiling and only the reflected light hits the diffuser layer so that no visible shadows are cast by structural elements.
In the course of the design planning, the formulated objectives for the visual perception of the course of the light were checked in a true-to-scale model structure. Important insights were gained into the positioning and alignment of the radiators.
The perforations in the shell also accommodate the downlights for illuminating the traffic areas. These standard lights are offset up into a cylinder with a black inner wall to achieve higher glare control.
