Penguin House Zoo Berlin
The luminous environment of the penguins
Fascinating and challenging at the same time! For the first time, as lighting planners, we are not primarily working for people, but animals are the focus of our planning:
Together with Zoo Berlin, we are developing a new lighting concept for the penguin house in the Zoological Garden.
We evaluate the existing artificial and daylight situation, taking into account the zoological findings on the physiological perception of the penguins.
As tetrachromats, penguins have a different perception than humans and therefore have extended needs for the spectrum of light. In particular, the ultraviolet component must be guaranteed in the interplay of artificial and daylight, because the penguins need this in order to perceive their fellow species comprehensively.
An exciting and very entertaining project in every respect!
